How To Hijack OER

  • Public
By Steve Swettenham October 10, 2019 - 1:43pm is blocked and has been that way since August 2019.

According to Openclipart - Wikipedia (, as of September 4, 2018, the open repository had greater than 147,000 artworks from more than 5,178 artists.

I used the site extensively, over the last 9 years, and gradually presumed that it would be accessible for as long as other sites, such as the Gutenberg project ( and the Internet Archive ( . However, alas that assumption of presumption is a deadend. Although I sense the loss of a useful OER site, I also have great sympathy for the artists that trusted the site to host their open licensed graphics. It is as if a select few people in the world just hijacked a rare gem of an OER repository.

Fallback Solutions:

... or download openclipart archives from a linux distro library:

  • openclipart-2.0-full.tar.bz2
  • openclipart-0.19.tar.bz2
  • openclipart-0.18-full.tar.bz2
