Advanced Classical Method
The following methods and strategies are just changes or shortcuts to the
beginner classical method, either using extra algorithms to shortcut others,
or to use a different strategy to solve in a quicker way. These methods were
used by Mats Valk in his 2016 World Record solve of 4.74 seconds.
Cross
The cross is solved in the same way as the beginner classical method,
although some tricks and shortcuts can be made to go through this process
quicker.
F2L patterns
F2L stands for "First 2 Layers", which represents solving the cube
for the First 2 Layers. Unlike the beginner method, where you solve the
first layer corners, then you solve the 2nd layer edges, the advanced method
solves the first layer corners and 2nd layer edges together, as blocks.
OLL patterns
OLL stands for "Orientation of the Last Layer", and there are 57 different
top orientations the cube can be in, and there are 57 different algorithms
to solve each of them.
PLL patterns
PLL stands for "Permutation of the Last Layer", and there are 21 different
permutations.
