Another Historic Site Destroyed in Iraq

Students enrolled in Anthropology 272 take note that the oldest Christian Monastery in Iraq has been destroyed by militants.  Consider the ongoing destruction of sites of historic and archaeological significance as good examples of  the power of symbols and human responses to them which is discussed in Chapters 14 and 15 of Renfrew and Bahn (Archaeology: Theories, Methods, and Practice, 2012).
