New dates suggest that the bones of Homo floresiensis were deposited no later than 60,000 ya  and stone tools attributed to this species are no more recent than 50,000 ya. which is approximately when anatomically modern humans are believed to have reached the Indonesian archipelago.  These dates remove the need to accept a lengthy co-existence with Homo sapiens and also point to H. floresiensis being the descendent of an earlier species of genus Homo.  Some scholars have suggested that they are related to Homo erectus while others have suggested descent from an as yet unidentified member of the genus.
