Outside of AU

I think it's great to use all these provided by AU though I wonder why we need to use in-house applications when there are so many great ones out there. And when my time at AU is finished, will I also lose access to all these tools? Wouldn't it make more sense to use other blogs (e.g. blogger, wordpress)?
