A blog post I wrote this week turned into an unintended experiment in social media's impact factor. The post itself I had put a fair bit of thought but a lot less of craft and style into - still, it clearly connected with: a) people who value research; and b) fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. As far as I've been able to tell, groups a) and b), when you put them together, equal c) the whole Internet.
My findings are as follows:
1) Documenting the critical responses to and conversation around one's research is a great use for Storify:

2) Blogging is a useful way to learn what topics really resonate with a lot of people.
3) When Slate claims that Buffy is the "most studied pop culture product," they're not kidding. Buffy is really, really, really popular. Really. Holy crap really.
