Path-Sharing: Monitoring Other Users' Activities on the Landing

This blog post is in reply to Gillian White's excellent post articulating her need for tracking and monitoring others' activity within the Landing. This blog post walks through some of the steps to track and monitor activities on the Landing. I encourage others to contribute their path-making discoveries.

Gillian mentioned the activity tab as a great first step for monitoring Landing activity. But if you are offline for awhile, going through all the items over the past week can seem a bit of a daunting prospect.

After clicking on the person's name from the activity tab, click on the little blue arrow on the person's profile photo. This will give you the option to follow their activity. I have opted to follow Gillian's activity, for example.

The modification of the notifications settings take a few extra steps. Go to account settings, then select notifications. You need to go to the section, notifications by user, and select the first letter of their first name to find them. (Their name will show up in the list if you have already added them to your list of those you are following).

This will add persons to my following list, but the notifications by either email or by site still need to be set up. I would opt to choose both email and site notifications for high-priority updates. However, the email/site options will give you all updates (wire updates, blog posts, comments, files, photos, etc.) so you will need to monitor individual learner activities to see if you are receiving too many notifications.

The great thing about the notifications feature is that you can select to have personal notifications, when you receive notifications when actions are performed on your content.

To make things easier to monitor, you can click on the following link from your own profile, and add a new collection of those you are following.

You can then add individual learners to the new collection.

The second option is Collection Notifications, which allows you to receive notifications when actions are performed by any of the users within your following collection.
