Nine Canadian universities have made a list of the top 200 in
the world.

coming in at 17th on the annual list released by London,
U.K.-based Times Higher Education (THE).
The University of British Columbia and McGill University in
Montreal were close together, coming at 30th and 35th
respectively.
McMaster in Hamilton, Ont., was 93rd on the list, University
of Alberta came in at 127th followed closely by University of
Victoria at 130th.
University of Montreal was 138th, Dalhousie University was
193, while Simon Fraser University in B.C. was 199, tied for

anyone's standards,"
...
Mroz said it could be due to spending. The U.S. spends 3.1% of

quirk that had been giving an advantage to universities with
more science research.
In last year's version (under the old system) McGill was the
top Canadian university, ranked ahead of U of T. More
dramatically, this year's version sees research heavyweights
Waterloo, Calgary, Western Ontario and Queen's fall out of the
top 200 entirely.
