I really need to get caught up! I intended to write blogs on the books that I've been reading and I'm about 8 or more behind . . . Well, this will be a brief posting.
A couple of weeks ago I read
How to Get a PhD: A Handbook for Students and Their Supervisors.
Phillips, Estelle M. and Derek S. Pugh
4th Edition
Reprinted 2008
Open University Press
ISBN-13: 978-033521684-0
What I liked about the book is it's recognition of the student as a whole person. It stresses the stress of the doctoral degree process. It is a pleasant read and the authors have a good sense of humour.
If you're interested in studies at the doctoral level, this is a must-read. Keep in mind that it is written from the UK-perspective, but outlines some of the differences between the UK and North American processes.
I know there are other books out there. Someone recently mentioned one about how to finish your PhD . . . has anyone seen that one?
