Stephenson, N. (1988). Zodiac: The eco thriller.New York: First Grove Press.
Zodiac was a nice diversion from some of the other things I’ve been reading lately. The main character, Sangamon Taylor (S.T. for short), works for a watchdog environmental organization. He hunts down and harasses companies who pollute the environment with industrial toxins. He spends most of his time buzzing around the Boston harbour in a zodiac. He is a cheeky character who amuses himself with nitrous oxide and manufactures homemade putrescence as a non-violent weapon. The other characters are colourful and assist S.T. with staged media events and various levels of eco-sabotage. It’s a fun little novel with a message of ongoing relevance.
