Assignment one was definitely challenging, and it took me a decent amount of time to complete. The case study reading was seemingly long and there was a lot of information that was covered, though the assignment required students to really understand the contents of the case study in order to properly answer all the questions. Even though I reread the case study multiple times to ensure I would not miss anything, I found myself constantly adding content to my answers at different points while doing the assignment.
The requirements of assignment one was not what I was expecting from COMP 361. I thought that this course would be like the other computer science courses I previously took, which totally threw me off and made me second guess my answers for the questions. Moreover, I found that I relied on external sources other than the textbook to finish the assignment, whether it was for clarification, more examples, or because I felt the textbook did not contain some important information I was looking for.
Part A was by far the longest for me, as I think it was for most students. There were many questions and those questions required extensive answers, though most of them were not difficult to answer. The only section I found particularly challenging was the Risks and Feasibility section. Understanding and identifying the risks was not difficult; however, for some reason I found it difficult to understand feasibility. Though, after watching a few YouTube lectures on this content and having a few close friends explain it to me in a few different ways, I began to understand the meaning and how to apply it to the question.
Part B was definitely more challenging, as I had some difficulties understanding and applying the three different event types and identifying the different use cases. However, I enjoyed creating the table and the overall simpler formatting of Part B, especially after how extensive Part A was.
I personally enjoyed Part C and Part D. I feel like a lot of people dislike essay questions and writing reflections as part of their assignments; however, I find them important and somewhat relaxing. Part C allowed students to really explore the importance of the work they did in Part A and Part B towards the system development process. Furthermore, reflecting on assignments forces people to re-look at their entire finished assignment and pin point areas that were more challenging and areas that were lease challenging. Reflections can really show students where they need to focus their exam studying on.
Going forward with the other assignments I think I will try and focus on finishing assignments in one day instead of starting and stopping over a few days. I found when I continuously worked on the assignment it would cause a snowball effect and I would get sections of the assignment done faster and I ended up understanding more of the content.
