The Toronto Raptors have made history. This years team is not only the first Toronto baskeball team to reach the finals. This is the first time in NBA history that the finals are being played outside the United States of America. I love basketball and was just a child when the Toronto Raptors came into existence.
In my course MDDE 610, our second assignment was to identify something that we have always wanted to learn how to do. As a child i always wanted to be a basketball player. I wanted to play in the NBA. Lack of skill and height....I am only 5'2" and have small hands, all of which make it extremely difficult to play competitive sports.
When i was 12 i made it onto my school team for basketball, one game we had 6 players. Most of you know that there are 5 on the court at time. After begging and pleading with my coach with 1 minute left in the game, he finally put me in.....YUP i was that bad that he chose to ride the starting lineup for the entire game and did not want to put me in. Needless to say, i was very embarassed and it put me off of wanting to play basketball again. Fast forward 28 years and i find myself wanted to be better.
I searched my playstore and downloaded a few basketball apps, the one app that i found very user friendly and very imformative and educational was DribbleUp. This app has simple workouts ranging from beginner to advanced, allows you to choose left and right hand dribbling, it has videos which show professionals teaching the skills and a timer that allows you to practice the skills for a certain amount of time.
I have to admit, since this is an assignment and i knew i would be recording myself, i have spent a considerable amount of time to practice and work on my basketball skills. I have to say that if i put this much effort into learning how to play and if there were these apps back then or a teacher that spent time on me, i may have become a pretty decent basketball player.
I look forward to sharing my journey with you. I have been practicing for 1 week now and think i am getting pretty good.
