The "diary" was intended for distribution at the 1982 Barnard Conference on Sexuality that included information on conference events, organizers' experiences, political writings and artwork. After complaints from Women Against Pornography, Barnard confiscated 1500 copies of the "diary." The conference itself was the first where the agenda was set by "sex positive" feminists and it marks the beginning of the "sex wars," or of open, high-profile fighting among feminists about sex, pornography, personal choice, state control, trans issues, BDSM, and sex work.
