Article discusses the importance of providing multiple "gateways to learning and understanding" and avoiding the "one size fits all" printed textbooks that have traditionally constituted the bulk of course materials. Conventional printed materials while reasonably accessible to many students do present barriers to students with
- sensory or motor difficulties,
- attentional or organizational problems, and
- learning disabilities.
