Librarian Jeffrey Beall put together a black list of quasi-professional and pseudo-open access journals and websites, sometimes referred to as 'gold open access'. He felt that the predatory publishers threatened the future of science communication so he set out to provide researchers with the information they needed to protect their research and reputations.
