World Fish Migration Day 2014 (WFMD) is a day of global action with events worldwide, to raise awareness about the importance of open rivers and migratory fish. Free migration for fish is crucial for healthy fish stocks. Migratory fish like salmon and trout need to migrate, if they can't, they will die out. People in various places in the world (e.g. Mekong river basin) relay on fish as a food source, Collapsing fish stocks has a negative impact on the well being of local peoples. Barriers on rivers and in coastal areas make it difficult for fish to reproduce. Events include field trips, citizen science projects, river cruises, seminars.
