HEQCO presents
Conference Summary
From MOOCs to badges, from competency-based learning to big data, HEQCO’s conference will explore {the buzz} in higher education – minus {the buzzwords} . As an agency of the Ontario government, HEQCO brings evidence-based research to the improvement of postsecondary education. Rethinking Higher Ed, our fourth annual conference, examines the many forces of change in higher education, how they are shifting expectations and how well those expectations are being met. We invite proposals by researchers, academic leaders, community builders and risk takers who want to share their insights and their practice.
Submissions
Please include a short (150 words) abstract on research or practice in one of the following areas:
• The role of entrepreneurship in higher education
• Technology's impact on teaching and learning
• Meeting the needs of the 21st century student
• Strategies for aligning job-seeking students to the world of work
• Learning and skills attainment outside the traditional classroom
• The big data movement: lessons for higher education
• Another relevant trend we inadvertently overlooked
PANELIST SESSIONS
Prospective speakers may submit proposals to participate in one of two panel formats (please indicate a specific format in your proposal). Each panel will consist of two to three speakers on related topics; panels will be organized by HEQCO:
1. Presentation Panels: Each panelist will have 15 minutes to present on innovative research and/or practice, followed by a Q&A.
2. Thematic Discussion Panels: Discussion panels will focus on a theme or idea in which the panelists have interest and expertise. Panelists will be asked by a facilitator to discuss three questions relevant to the theme or idea with the goal of having the audience participate in a longer Q&A.
GRADUATE STUDENT POSTER SESSION
Graduate students are invited to participate in the conference poster session by submitting a 150-word proposal based on the topics above. Accepted poster session presenters will attend the conference free of charge. (Note: graduate students are not limited to poster sessions, and may submit as panelists; however the poster sessions are intended to highlight the work of graduate students).
