Students enrolled in Anthropology 272 (Introduction to Archaeology) and Anthropology 277 (The Archaeology of Ancient Peoples) take note that today an article in the Globe and Mail documents the killing of Khaled al-Asaad by Islamic State militants. Mr. al-Assad was an archaeologist who was born in Palmyra, Syria and spent his career preserving the site. Palmyra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that many fear will be pillaged by militants who overran the town in May.
