We are pleased to release another fine issue of International Review of Research on Open and Distance Learning (IRRODL). This issue marks our 10th year of publication and I am confident that IRRODL is now the most widely read and cited distance education journal in the world. We  present in this issue 8 peer reviewed [...]

    Hi Terry,

Congratulations on the lates IRRODL.  (10th year).  This issue is very comprehensive and inspiring. As the IRRODL gains more views and it will -- it will become a leader in the world of educational standards and vision.

I particularly love the MP3 versions -- they are so helpful when I need to listen and I believe they enhance my learning.  I love the reader's voice too. I have listened to many of his readings and although I do not know him, I think he is making a significant contribution to my neurology. I am, like many, interested in the neuroplasticity of the brain, and evidence is clear that we can definitely learn and keep learning as we get older. This message needs to be spread and emphasized to all of our aging educators (like myself).  The EMDR research and the brain development research are very affirming of this fact.Thank you and all the contributors for keeping my brain active, inspired and interested in lifelong learning.

Another area of interest I have is in the engagement of learning and coherence and the overall integration of bio-interpersonal development.  Daniel Siegel notes about the neurology that supports coherence and his lectures and books are truly inspirational.  However as I listen to the advancements of technology for use in learning and for promoting quality education -- I can't help but feel that there is a sense of bio-interpersonal mixed with new advancements for the development of enhance technological-bio-interpersonal for the purpose of learning effeciency and effectiveness.  It seems to me that research and theory development in this area could lead to a greater comprehensive understanding of the advantages of online learning for the global masses.

It seems to me that tech-bio-interpersonal learning incorporates some of the same concepts as neuro-integration in the human being.

Coherence is neurologically defined by Daniel Siegel (2007,2009) through the first letters of the work itself:

    Connecting,

    Open,

    Harmony,

    Engaging,

    Receptive,

    Emerging,

    Noetic (ways of knowing),

    Compassionate

    Empathic
