This goldmine of advice for grad students helped immeasurably with my own doctoral studies--and subsequent academic work. It's been conspicuously disappeared from the Internet in recent years. I don't know why. Agre's apparently not with UCLA any more, although his home page still is and there's lots more good stuff there.
Then I remembered the Wayback Machine. I'm starting to regard it as a WikiLeaks for the Internet's own history, which is proving delightfully irrepressible.

Was wondering if any one knows about any mentors in the field of distance education?

AU's Centre for Distance Education offers several post-BA and graduate programs in Distance Education; in addition, AU's MA in Integrated Studies program offers a focus area in Adult Education that includes courses taught by Distance Education experts. Contacts at these programs can provide more detailed information to prospective students and put enrolled students in touch with possible mentors.
