The Insider for June 27, 2011

 The June 27, 2011 edition of The Insider is now available.

 

In this edition:

         Thousands of AU graduates, family members, friends and well-wishers gathered in Athabasca for AU’s 2011 Convocation on June 9, 10 and 11.

         RBC, through the RBC Blue Water Project, has donated $250,000 to AU in support of the Athabasca River Basin Research Institute.

         AU president Dr. Frits Pannekoek has been acclaimed president-elect of the Canadian Association of Learned Journals.

         Letters from the Lost – A  Memoir of Discovery, written by Helen Waldstein Wilkes and published by AU Press, won the second annual Alberta Readers’ Choice Award.

         Selections from the collected works of Ruth Gorman, one of Alberta’s most interesting historical figures, have recently been digitized and included in the Alberta Women’s Memory Project.

         The Development and External Relations team works to increase and diversify AU’s sources of funding, to foster lifelong relationships with alumni and friends of the university and to secure the funding needed to support people, programs and infrastructure.

         CUPE 3911 announces this year’s winner of the Bryon Paege Memorial Award.

         The winner of the Boreal Forest Mural Contest.

 The next issue of The Insider will be published July 18, 2011. The deadline for submissions is Friday, July 8.

    I always love reading The Insider, but I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed by one small thing in the current issue. On page 3, the story discussing the Order of AU inductees refers to "Lisa Priebe and Dr. Tim Nerenz." As Lisa also holds a PhD, it would have been nice to see either both or neither inductees referred to by title.
