Tuning

I've always hated tuning.  First, there is the painstaking process of getting the instrument to sound just write.  And with more individual pieces, the greater the likelihood exists that your instrument will not be in tune.  I grew up playing one of music's most tempermental instruments, the bagpipes.  As such, I'm finding this session's lesson on tuning quite valuable.  The online tool is quite handy too as I'm able to play while it continues playing through my speakers.

Well, I just took a pause from this entry to go through the lesson on tuning.  I found the bit on 'tuning in the real world' very helpful.  Summarzed, this is what I'll take with me--so long as I have my E string properly tuned, I can use this chart:

1 - E String - Ask a guitarist, Start Here
2 - A String - Tune to E String, 5th Fret
3 - G String - Tune to E String, 3rd Fret
4 - C String - Tune at 4th Fret to E String
