Being a junior high teacher, I am sensitive to the issue of bullying. On CTV National News last night (and in an article posted on their web site, Teachers put off by revamped 'Bully' video game) there was a report about a new video game called Bully that is being condemned by teachers in the UK, United States and Canada.
Now, I don't like to criticize something I have not seen even if it appears to be in bad taste so I won't. What I found most disturbing was the reference to the fact that many of our students have to endure bullying through web 2.0 technologies like Facebook and other examples of social software.
I have witnessed digital bullying myself. I have had two cases of students being threatened and bullied through email that was so bad that the RCMP was involved. I was once threatened by a student via email and the police had to intervene. Why am I not surprised that it has become a part of digital life?
