Reflections of AU Landing; Creating the Portfolio

I am pleased to make use of AU Landing. I still need some time to feel comfortable witht he interface, and test the limits. I have noticed dramatic limitations with page publishing, in that I cannot (yet) embed word documents, podcasts, or powerpoint presentations. However, embedding photos and images is no problem. The word editor is very limited, so I will be checking the limits of the HTML editor in the coming weeks. I noticed that the blog posts have been all migrated (up to December 8, 2009). However, the formatting on them have been lost. I need to revisit the posts and re-format them, and this suggests a potential research topic and discussion for the past users of Me2U who have had their posts migrated without formatting: how do we use posting space to organize ideas, and share meaning? It is an opportunity; without the loss of the formatting, the issue would never have arisen. Another limitation is the polling feature - I would like to have some way of creating surveys with more than one question. I would like to add some notes tot he survey question to provide participants some context.

I am in the process of collecting and uploading resources completed as course requirements for the eleven courses. The entire learning journey has taken three and a half years - from September 2006 till February/March 2010.

The collection and uploading of the documents have started the organizing process for me:

Which artefacts to select? How much overlap is okay?

I notice I have not met all the research outcomes - I will explore the other learning artefacts I have created for the workplace and for professional networks, to check if any of these meet the  second part of the research objectives.

How many artefacts should I use? I notice a few assignments really cover a host of outcomes, as they are final projects.

To begin answering these questions, I have created an e-portfolio framework (pretty sketchy, and likely to be updated numerous times) to aid me with selecting artefacts. I got the framework from the e-portfolio resources, and am using Norm Taylor's example. So, I will compare assignments with the list of outcomes. I need to scan the assignments again, to provide descriptions. I need to review the course outlines, to match which assignments demonstrate which learning outcomes; then check if my framework is valid.

I notice that although the overlap is there, I want to showcase some papers and assignments as exemplars; others are there to demonstrate specific learning outcomes.

I also noticed that there are some archived assignments available on Moodle. I took advantage of that to download the paper, and the instructor's feedback. However, not all the resources are available.

I'm interested in ELGG as ePortfolio too.  I'm a learning designer in CLDD.

You can link to a Word doc from a page, but strangely it looks like only from a comment, not from the original page. (I described this in a Bugs page in Jon’s Help pages.)

It's too bad you can't move pages around; are you going to cope with that by creating a hierarchy first and then filling it?

How many Microsoft developers does it take to change a light bulb? None - They try to convince everyone that darkness is now the industry standard.
