This post is a wandering post, often classified as sense-making, or "slow" blogging, to clarify some thoughts about the writing process for artefacts used in my portfolio, and about the connecting narrative tying the individual artefacts together into a coherent whole.
What audience to consider while drafting the artefact descriptions?
If I write for myself, I could add more details about the context surrounding the creation of the artefact, and give impressions and reflections on the creative process, the challenges, and the other issues I was encountering at that point. I might then spend some time considering the feedback I received, and reflect back on how I perceived the reply, and built on it.
If I write to demonstrate competencies for the committee, then I could focus on matching the artefacts to the required outcomes. In several cases, the outcomes are quite broad so several artefacts would need to be chosen to amply demonstrate mastery. On some points, however, I am unclear how the artefacts match up precisely with the listed outcomes, but instead represent other outcomes.
During the next step of the writing process, I need to weave a narrative tying the artefact descriptions together into a coherent story-line, reflecting on overall patterns and making connections between the different artefacts.
