Psychedelic drugs promote neural plasticity in rats and flies

Psychedelic drugs may have mind-altering powers in the physical sense, too. A new study has found psychedelics, specifically DOI, DMT, and LSD, can change brain cells in rats and flies, making neurons more likely to branch out and connect with one another. The work supports the theory that psychedelics could help to fight depression, anxiety, addiction, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

This is a really interesting article! A relevant book was recently published by Michael Pollan, an American author, activist, journalist, and professor of journalism at UC Berkley, called "How to Change Your Mind: What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence." This book discusses his and others' research on the effects of LSD and psilocybin on suffering related to depression, addiction, and anxiety. He includes a section outlining the neuroscientific research that is being conducted in this department. If you are interested in this topic, I would highly recommend this book.
