  • The inaugural meeting of the Athabasca University General Faculties Council, which replaces the Athabasca University Academic Council, took place in Athabasca on November 8. Effective October 1, 2011, the legal name of the Athabasca University Governing Council changed to the Governors of Athabasca University.
  • The Board of Governors of AU approved the public launch of a $30 million fundraising campaign for the university on October 21. The AU community is invited to get involved in this exciting and important campaign.
  • The Board of Governors of Athabasca University invites AU faculty and staff to nominate candidates for the Order of Athabasca University, to be inducted at the university’s Convocation in June 2012. The deadline for nominations is November 30, 2011.
  • The Alberta Women’s Memory Project, which has been collecting and digitizing materials such as women’s memoirs, photos, letters, material collections and videos to preserve the record of women’s historic contributions, will be unveiled at a November 15 celebration and fundraiser in Edmonton.
  • The 2011 AU United Way Campaign got off to a great start with the annual Kick-Off Breakfast on November 9. The theme of this year’s campaign is Change Starts Here. A number of fundraising events are being organized by various departments around the university.
  • A grouped study course, Developing Writing Skills (ENGL 155), will be offered at AU-Athabasca for AU staff only starting in January 2012. Deadline for registration is December 10, 2011.
  • AU’s 2011 Open Access Week activities attracted 272 webcast participants and plenty of lively discussion about open educational resources and their role in the future of post-secondary education. This is the third year that AU has participated in the annual international event.
