Great arguments - yes, I agree, most NoSQL solutions would be sub-optimal for your scenario. I wonder whether there would be any value in an object-oriented or object-relational system though? I can imagine ways to extend the scenario where the ability to cope with rich data. sometimes loosely structured, would be quite useful - things like building plans, for instance, might be hard to deal with in a pure RDBMS, especially if you wanted to query them. Azure (or some other cloud-based service) is an interesting idea - makes a lot of sense.

Very cool article. I have to say I am biased towards EMC. Out of the big data scope and more into virtualization they are quite innovative. They purchase VMware stock back in the day when IBM was a venture capital company and they partnered with Vmware and Cisco to create a company called VCE to provided virtualization solutions for servers and networking using EMC storage.
