I don't know if I'd have anything useful to say about your paper on science fiction and social media, but it sounds really interesting.
Like Mary, the comment about the intersection of science fiction and social media intrigued me. I know that there is a great deal of fan fiction surrounding seminal television science fiction such as the original Star Trek series. Is this an aspect of the synergy you mention? Or are you referring to the ARG surrounding newer series such as Lost and the fact that some fans were more engaged with the ARG than the TV series. ARG site: http://www.lostargs.com/. Specifically the blog on unsolved clues: http://www.lostargs.com/2009/09/damon-carlton-and-polar-bear-clues.html.

There is an entire community dedicated to producing fan films based on the Star Wars series. There are competitions for the best Fan Films in various categories. My favourites in this genre are Pink Five and Pink Five Strikes Back.

In the case of the Star Wars fan films the original creator (George Lucas) seems to officially support the fans' efforts.

How do we get faculty to sign onto the Landing?
Can we link our anthropology webpage to this area of the landing
http://www.athabascau.ca/anthropology/faculty.htm
This contains quite detailed research interests of mine and Leslie that could help students choose us as a potential supervisor.
