Preliminary investigation - this beginning stage is equivalent to “Project Planning” as described by Ally, Cleveland-Innes and Wiseman (2010) in their research on “Managing distance education projects in a telework environment” (p.7). Unlike the author’s group case study, however, the issue of funding needs not to be considered here so it has no impact on the deliverables.
§ Project scope – to design, develop, and implement a set of e-learning instructions for BUS017 to specifically assist the instructors in the teaching and learning of lab-based topics that include: (1) website design and development using the Microsoft Expression Web 3.0 authoring tool; and (2) database development using Microsoft Access 2007 for Database Management Systems (topic 8).
§ Project outcomes – the deliverables will be the e-learning instructions, as described in the “Design” and “Development” phases (below), implemented on UniSIM’s Blackboard LMS system for teaching and learning access by all the BUS017 instructors and students, anytime and anywhere starting from the July 2011 semester.
§ Key stakeholders – five (5) BUS017 instructors and, approximately, two hundred seventy (270) students.
§ Project completion date – 30 June 2011 (see Gantt Chart).
§ Overall budget – nil (all the hardware and software resources are already available; only the project manager’s development time will be incurred and this is absorbed as an internal cost as he is a member of the UniSIM’s full-time faculty).
